I've been wanting to start a blog for some time now (heck everyone else has one, why shouldn't I?), I just wasn't sure how I wanted to do it.  I am someone, one might consider to be perhaps overly opinionated?  Stuff comes to mind with me all the time, and sometime I'd just like to share my thoughts with someone else.  In this case, I have the opportunity to share my thoughts with you.

I decided this was the time to start a blog because something happened today that to my memory has never happened before in the 20 years Sigrid and I have been here at Woods' Lake.  First, I need to tell you that Sigrid and I decided to allow fishing here, 20 years ago because we are family types and we honestly thought that a kid needs a good place to go fishing.

A few years ago we allowed someone to operate this lake as a carp lake, but, to be honest, we weren't too thrilled with an enterprise that took the "family" out of the lake so we went back to just letting people fish here in hopes that they would bring their kids and teach them to enjoy something that doesn't require a computer chip.

Today, I was sitting in my easy chair when the doorbell rang.  It was the kids who had come earlier with their father and a friend.  They rang tha doorbell to thank me for a wonderful time, and that has never happened that I can remember in 20 years.  Given the reasons stated above, perhaps the fact that I have a very bad memory, you might be able to appreciate the warm feelings that ring of our front door bell gave me, and Sigrid, when I told her about it.

To the young men who took the time to thank us and ring the bell to do so, I want to tell them that "you made my and my wife's day".  Actually you went a long way toward making the last 20 years because it really is nice to be appreciated.

They caught 8 fish in a little over two hours by the way.

Thanks fellas'

Did I happen to mention that in addition to being opinionated, I am also considered to be verbose?  Just thought I should mention that sometime early in our relationship.

Yesterday was one of those days that doesn't come along very often.  First of all, my minnows seem to be stabilizing in their new environment.  Outside, I learned that Woods' Lake has three new inhabitants which is what this story is about.  I would say they have been with us about a week (Mid May).  I drove up the driveway and shot some pictures of them which are below in a slide show.  Sassy and Miracle took notice of my photographic endeavors and when I finished, they raced me alongside the driveway as I drove my raider back to the garage,  I got a couple of pictures of that and so I included them in the slide show below.  Those little geese you see pictured below have undergone an amazing transformation over the past 6 weeks.  I'll try and show it to you here.

To the right of this text, you will find some pictures of our new goslings, and some pictures I took of Sassy and Miracle as they raced along besides my utility vehicle on my way back to the garage.  I loved the shots and I wanted to share them with someone so, Congratulations, you're it (BTW the pictures were taken between 5-16 and 6-23-2009.

June 4, 2009 -- WOW, I can't believe the time that has passed since I last updated this.  The geese are considerably larger in just over two weeks, I've incorporated some new pictures in the slide show above that will give you an idea of how quickly they grow.  In another month they will be flying and will look just like their parents.  The pictures of them grazing were taken on June 2,  The first were taken on the 15th of May when they were about a week old.

August 1, 2009

Wow, it's been 6 whole weeks since I last pontificated on anything.  The truth is, we've been quite busy here at the lake, the new bait shop has done much better than I imagined when we opened it.  We've been experimenting with keeping our minnows in lake water, rather than the chemical treated water most are forced to use because water from a water plant contains Chlorene and you have to get rid of that of your minnows become quite fragile.  Besides, lake water is more like the water they are going to work in when you buy them.  It must be working because my supplier tells me that ours is the lowest mortality of any customer he services.
Sigrid and I have both enjoyed birthdays, along with my grandson Dominick over the past 6 weeks.
We find there is a fox in the area.  Two of our ducks are now ex ducks and I know he got one of them because we found the bird the next morning.  I was thinking of sending my remaining two ducks to Karate class but so far I haven't found an instructor that specializes in ducks.  We had three Ganada goslings at the lake back in May, They are fully grown now and flying.  so far they have kept coming back and using WoodsLake as their home.  Soon they will take wing for a warmer climate for the winter.  It's always interesting to see if any of them return the following spring.

Feb 23, 2010 - Wow, what a winter.  Lots of family, lots of things to do.  The wind finally blew the face off our sign up front so we had to do something about that.  We;ve decided that we are going to grow Mushrooms here and the details of getting that started have been keeping us quite busy most of the winter.
They are going to open the Randleman lake to fishing within a couple of weeks and we are busy getting the bait shop ready for that as well.
In addition I have tons of pictures I haven't posted yet and am working on a complete revision of this web site in order to make it easier for you to find what you want to see here.  I plan to have a section about fishing, another one devoted to family fun and still another section dedicated to Perry's pet projects (like the biodiesel).
With all the winter weather we've had, we took extra special care of our remaining ducks.  We finally figured out that two of our ducks became dinner for a fox who lives in the area.  With the lake frozen much of January, we needed to keep the ducks in the barn because we figured that with a fox on the loose, they lost their protection and would have been easy pray for the fox.  I'm happy to report that as of today, both are still with us.
